Basic food, most health and medical goods and education are GST-free (0%).

## Selling to customers in Australia from abroad

A foreign business registers once its sales to Australia reach A$75,000 a year. For imported goods of A$1,000 or less sold to consumers, the seller charges GST at checkout.

## Worked example

At 10% , a price of A$100.00 before GST becomes A$110.00 , of which A$10.00 is GST .
The other way round, A$100.00 including GST is A$90.91 before it — divide by 1.1 rather than taking 10% off, which is the usual mistake.
