Average order value calculator

Revenue divided by orders. Then what raising the average basket by a tenth would add, with the same customers and the same traffic.
Average order value
US$70.00
AOV after +10%
US$77.00
Extra revenue from +10%
US$1,260.00

How it is calculated

Average order value = revenue ÷ number of orders, over the same period.

Use revenue before tax and after refunds, so the figure reflects what customers actually spent with you.

Questions

How do shops raise AOV?

Bundles, a free-shipping threshold just above the current average, “frequently bought together” suggestions, and quantity pricing. Each works by giving a reason to add one more item.

Should shipping be included in revenue?

Exclude what you charge for shipping if it only passes through to the carrier. Include it if you make a margin on it.

Is a higher AOV always better?

Not if it lowers conversion more than it raises the basket. Watch revenue per visitor alongside it.
