Break-even ROAS calculator

What a sale earns before advertising, and so the lowest return on ad spend that does not lose money. Below this ROAS, every sale your ads bring costs you.

How it is calculated

Profit before ads = order value − product cost − shipping − order value × fees.

Break-even ROAS = order value ÷ profit before ads.

Break-even ACoS = profit before ads ÷ order value — the same threshold, written the way Amazon reports it.

Questions

What is a good ROAS?

Any ROAS above your break-even, by enough to cover fixed costs. A 3× ROAS is profitable for a product with a 50% margin and a loss for one with 25%. That is why a single “good ROAS” number does not exist.

Should returns be included?

Yes, if they are common. Reduce the order value by your return rate, or add the average cost of a return to the shipping figure.

What about repeat purchases?

This is the break-even on the first order. If customers come back, you can afford a lower first-order ROAS — the customer lifetime value calculator shows how much lower.

If you run WooCommerce

WooFinance subtracts ad spend from WooCommerce revenue alongside fees and shipping, so the ROAS you see is measured against profit, not turnover. WooFinance is our plugin; the calculator above works the same whether you use it or not.
