How it is calculated

Abandonment rate = (carts created − orders completed) ÷ carts created.

The revenue figure assumes abandoned carts are worth your average order value; in practice they are often larger.

Questions

What is a typical cart abandonment rate?

Most published studies put the average around 70%. Unexpected costs at checkout — shipping, tax, fees — are the reason shoppers give most often.

How much of it can be recovered?

A reminder email recovers a small share, typically a few percent of abandoned carts. Fixing the cause — showing the full price earlier, offering guest checkout — moves the rate itself.

Where do I find carts created?

Your analytics “add to cart” or “begin checkout” event. Pick one definition and keep it.
