How it is calculated

Volumetric weight (kg) = length × width × height in cm ÷ divisor.

Billable weight = the larger of volumetric and actual weight.

In inches and pounds the same rule uses 139 for most express services: L × W × H ÷ 139. Check your carrier’s current divisor — it is set per service and can change.

Questions

Why am I charged for more than the parcel weighs?

Because a light, bulky box takes space a heavier one could have used. Carriers bill the larger of the two weights, and the divisor is how they convert space into kilograms.

How do I lower the billable weight?

Use the smallest box the item fits safely, and measure it after packing — a bulging box is measured at its widest point.

Which divisor should I use?

The one in your carrier agreement. 5000 is the most common for international express in centimetres; some domestic and economy services use 6000 or 4000.
